Creative outfits for mini skirts

For those who want to get in on the popular mini skirt trend, there are quite a few ways to create a variety of different looks.

Miniskirts continue to be one of the hottest trends in fashion. Just look at Hollywood stars like Paris Hilton and Mischa Barton. Rarely does one see stars such as these sporting any clothing bottoms other than mini skirts. Because they certainly show a lot of skin, these skirts are not for everyone. For those that do want to get in on the trend, however, there are quite a few ways to create a variety of different looks with mini skirts.

One of the most casual looks can be put together with a knit mini skirt (they look like gym/cheer leading shorts but are skirts instead) and a basic tank top. Solid color tanks look best. (Tanks and tees that are too “busy”, i.e. have lots of designs and patterns, tend to overwhelm mini skirts, so stay away from those). The knit skirts also are great to slip on over a bathing suit during the summer when spending a day at the beach or pool.

Any pair of flip flops or sandals would work well with this look.

Mini skirts come in a variety of fabrics, including denim, cotton, and corduroy. For a casual but cute look, try pairing any of these skirts with a long-sleeve or short-sleeve solid color tee. To dress the outfit up, add a blazer over the tee. Blazers come in all kinds of materials as well, including twill, suede, and corduroy. Hence, it is quite easy to find a blazer that will match any kind and color mini skirt.

Try adding a pageboy cap or beret to the above look for an extra accessory. As for footwear, during warmer weather any sandal is again appropriate. For a more sophisticated, sexy look, a strappy sandal with a slight heel creates a striking look from head to toe. In colder weather, knee high boots or a pair of fur-lined suede boots will help in keeping legs warm.
Tee shirts and tanks are not the only tops that can be worn with mini skirts. Sweaters (turtlenecks, crew necks, v-necks, etc.) go great with a pleated corduroy or twill skirt. Add a scarf and/or a long coat to complete the winter look. Of course, wear a pair of warm boots with this look too.

For a more daring look, try wearing a pair of fish net stockings under a blue or black denim mini. Black combat boots with this outfit will create an “alternative” look. A heavy metal or punk rock tee shirt would be a great completion to this ensemble. This is the unique instance where a “busy” tee can be worn with a mini skirt. Bold is the key to this look.

The “disco” look is currently very popular with many women who frequent dance clubs. A mini skirt is key to this particular look. White and black are the best colors to use. As a top, a glittered or sequined sleeveless shirt or tube top in either a silver or gold color would be perfect. A pair of stiletto heels completes the look.

Some things to typically avoid when wearing mini skirts: the aforementioned “busy” tees (except with the “alternative” look), any sort of striped or polka dot shirt, clogged shoes, tennis shoes (with the exception of plain white canvas shoes) and socks of any kind (knee socks with pleated minis are the only exception here).

Mini skirts promise to remain a popular fashion trend for a long time to come. What makes mini skirts so great is their versatility. They come in a variety of designs, fabrics and colors, they can be worn any time of the year, and they can be used to create a variety of outfits from casual to classy to sexy. There aren’t many looks that can’t be created with these skirts. Don’t be afraid, therefore, to get creative and try all kinds of different styles. You can’t really mess up the look. Just remember that as long as you are comfortable with your body and with your self, you will automatically pull off any look well. Attitude is everything.
