5 ways to change your look

Tired of the way you look? Check out these easy, fun ways to give yourself a makeover that will invite admiring glances and comments.

In a typical day, most of us are too preoccupied with work and families to worry very much about how we look. But when the kids settle down for the night and a spouse is settled in front of the television, you may decide to take a long look in the mirror and opt for some changes.

Don't let gray hair, sagging skin, or extra pounds discourage you. And don't think that plastic surgery is the expensive answer. Instead, focus on changes that remain under your control and can be achieved with minimal time and cost. Here are some of the quick, easy things you can do to enhance your appearance for a new and different look:

1. Hair today, gone tomorrow. Give your crown of glory a thorough analysis. Is the color starting to fade? Get a touch-up or color rinse from the drugstore in a do-it-yourself kit, taking the allergy and strand tests first. Or pay the small amount required by the hair salon for a first-rate professional coloring job; after all, you're worth it. Next, get a quality cut. Nothing can improve your style more. Then do a deep conditioning and shampoo, or have the stylist give you one. Experiment with arranging your new cut, and you will look like a million dollars.

2. Face up to it. Examine your face carefully in the mirror. Use a mild but effective cleanser to clear pores and remove excess oil. Moisturize day and night for soft, supple skin. Get a cosmetic consultation at the makeup counter of a major department store; in fact, why not get a free makeover? Many cosmetic lines offer this service as long as you don't mind listening to a sales spiel for their products that you will be encouraged to purchase afterward. You'll learn helpful hints, find out more about your skin type and suitable care, and get some ideas for a flattering makeup look. While you're at it, get matching nail polish.

3. You're a jewel. Next stop is the jewelry counter. Visit on a sale day to pick up good-looking necklaces, rings, bracelets, and earrings at fifty percent discount, or less. Coordinate your pieces for a variety of looks, from work to play, day to evening. A few, well-selected pieces can turn you into a different person.

4. Clothes make the person. Go shopping for the latest looks and sales. Try on a variety of styles until you find one that emphasizes your best features while hiding any unsightly bulges. Experiment with color, length, and fabric to find something truly different. Then get ready to dazzle co-workers and family.

5. Finish with accents. Pick out shoes, a handbag, and perhaps a belt or scarf to complete your new look. Stockings or socks may be in order, along with a hat or jacket. For the fun of it, consider buying new lingerie that only you will see, but it can still make you feel great. Try on a variety of items to see how you look in each. Assemble the final effect when you feel your best.

Enhancing your appearance can make you feel renewed and attractive in a fresh, vibrant way. Have fun in your new role, and don't wait too long to do it again.
